This topic's likely been discussed before, but I seriously cannot understand the logic behind how WG has placed the IS series tanks in each tier.

IS – Tier 7

IS-2 – Tier 7

IS-3 – Tier 8

IS-4 – Tier 10

IS-5 – Tier 8

IS-6 – Tier 8

IS-7 – Tier 10

IS-8 – Tier 9

Does this order have any reflection of their power or modernity in real life?

Did you not know that the Russian tanks are not governed by the laws of physics and time??? They don't depend on anything!!!
And they are equally powerfull!! You can't doubt the clever brains that thought them up, can you? One IS is as good as one IS7!!

Yes, it does. The IS tanks were not developed after each other, many were competitors against each other or parallel developments. The IS can be switched between the IS-100 and the IS-2 model 1943. The IS-2 model 1945 is pretty much the same tank. The IS-3 appeared at the end of 1945, and served into the Cold War. The IS-4, of 1946, is a drastically improved IS-2 with captured German technology not seen in any other IS series tank. It wasn't put into production initially, as the IS-3 was already being churned out. The tank is a Tier X, because it's armor, even before WG changed it a while ago, would be too good at Tier VIII or IX. A bit disappointing to see that it doesn't have the historical gun but oh well.  The IS-5 , also known as the Obj. 730 is a prototype of the IS-8. The IS-6, also known as the Obj, 252 is a prototype development of the IS-2. The IS-7 was developed in the late 1940s, however is at Tier X, as it was a parallel competitor against the IS-8 (later renamed the T-10/T-10M) and was better, but historically, was impractical. I think the IS tanks are balanced pretty well (in terms of tier).
