Yes, I'm picking one up before the sale ends. I currently suffer greatly in the T-44-100 / T-54 mod 1 due to only 5 degrees of gun depression and am expecting the 7 degrees on the Type 59 will make a world of difference in my ability to play it. On Middleburg hill especially, the T-44/T-54 really suck to play up there.

I find the Type 59 greatly inferior to the T-44. Not sure why, other folks have better success in their Type 59 but I'm about 45% in it and not really improving. So it's almost certainly me and not the tank.

That said, it's been badly powercrept, and the T-54 mod.1 is a much better performer (borne out by winrate and damage stats for 55-65% players).

If you struggle in T-44/54 then Type 59 wont make much difference. The DPM and pen is below par with all the powercreep at tier 8.

Glad to hear your comments on it. I was thinking the 5 degrees of depression limit was my biggest problem with the T-44-100. It's also slow for a medium. I also have the T-54 mod 1 already but was trying to get good with the T-44 before starting with the goodest tank. Torturing myself for nothing I guess.

OTOH, with Tier 8s now facing the missile era these slow-ish mediums might be out of commission - I'm wondering how that's gonna play out.

Well, the Centurion Mk I can't handle T92E1s at all. The missiles are the least of the problem - it's the standard round that punches straight through the supposedly-hard turret and does 5-600 damage that's the problem. 3 of them is enough to kill the Cent, and you can't burn it down fast enough to stay alive - even if the T92E1 just sits out in the open and takes the punishment.

I doubt the Type 59 will fare any better.

Well I've never played the Type 59 so I don't think I'm a very reliable source, but from the perspective of a driver who comes up against it often, I'd say its strong. The upper plate is very good and when it uses just a bit of gun depression, most mediums can't penetrate it and the rock hard turret is impenetrable by standard rounds except the cupola which is very small. To be honest, I think 7 degress is too much. IRL, the Type 59 had 4 degrees of gun depression so I'd say 6 degrees would be good enough. It's a bit too flexible. And just so you know, the AMX 13 90 can't penetrate a Type 59 reliably on level ground so I think the key to the tank is the armor. Having said all that, I repeat, I'm NOT a Type 59 driver, so don't take me too seriously, just pointing out that its a scary tank to come up against.
