This tank is just terrible compared to the current crop of tier V meds (particularly the t34 twins).

sssh... you mustn't complain about anything, or you'll have ppl complaining about your complaining. but that having been said, what is your main beef with it?
When the KV-2 get nerfted, but the Smasher doesn't, we know something is rotten in Denmark. Can anyone say "Pay to Win"?

M4 used to be a good Tier 5 medium.  Was it nerfed in the great low tier cataclysm?

No but it did have its average damage from the top gun nerfed in the previous update (not the most recent one). Not sure why.

I have to disagree. It`s still a perfectly good Tier V tank, it just has a very different playstyle than the T-34/ Type T-34. Unlike the T-34/ Type T-34 where you can use the 57mm machine gun to whittle the enemy down in a 1 v 1 knife fight with raw DPM, with the M4 you have to use the good front turret armor + mantlet, gun depression, and keeping your enemy at a distance, only going into a full on tussle with red tanks you know you can kill quickly and easily.

Pros M4:

- Average, good enough gun handling, aim time, and accuracy.

- Decent penetration and good enough alpha even against Tier VI tanks

- Relatively rapid rate of fire for a 75-76mm gun

- Turret traverse is rather quick

- Mobile enough for medium tank roles

- Excellent gun depression of -10 to -12 degrees combined with good mantlet, enough to bounce most medium/ light tank guns with some reliability. Excels at hulldown positions.

- Overall flexibility given the lack of specialization enables you to do a variety of roles decently.

Cons M4:

- Can be a large, inviting target when outside of hull-down position

- Under-average hull armor doesn`t help either when pushed into a 1v1 brawl

- Not as mobile as most medium/ light tanks in its Tier spread

- Gun handling, aim time, and accuracy may not be sufficient for very-long range shooting.

- DPM-wise can still be outclassed, especially by faster firing, medium alpha guns.

- While flexible, it doesn`t excel in any particular area. Requires experienced players who can think on their feet and make split-second decisions to master well.

Pros T-34:

- Quicker accelerating than the M4, rivals light tanks in mobility.

- Fast firing 57mm with low-average alpha, good pen, and decent enough gun handling, accuracy and aim time. Excellent raw DPM. Excels in a 1v1 fight.

- Rather quick traverse on both hull and turret.

- Decent enough gun depression at -7

- Armor can occasionally bounce shots when angled heavily

- Much lower vertical profile than the M4

- Sidescrapes fairly well due to pre-angled side armor.

Cons T-34:

- Turret armor isn`t as effective as M4 especially against more than 90mm of penetration by players who can shoot accurately and skip the gun mantlet/ gun mount parts.

- Similarly, hull front must be angled heavily to bounce with some reliability, otherwise doesn`t actually stand up much against straight-on shots.

- Doesn`t fare well against peek-a-boomers and ambushers; Its alpha is too low to compete in such a manner even against 75/76mm gun beginning to be common at this tier.

- Side horizontal profile is bigger than the M4 due to the long side hull section (What I like to call Nicki Minaj behinds, if you ever see one of those). Stands greater risk of being shot and penned in the back as you round a corner trying to escape.

- Pen and alpha can be a bit low against Tier VI tanks.

- May be priority-targeted by experienced players who recognizes what the T-34 can do if left unchecked.

Pros Type T-34:

- Similar to T-34, except slower accelerating, lesser gun depression angles and with worse gun handling in favor of quick aim time.

Cons Type T-34:

- On the move accuracy can be a bit dodgy thanks to worse gun handling.

- -5 gun depression in such a fairly tall gun mount in the turret can hamper you a lot if the terrain you`re on is hilly.

- Being slower means you may have to stand and fight instead of running when pushed by red tanks.

- Otherwise similar cons as T-34

better off using the premium T14 tier V

I no longer like the standard M4 as you get whacked around too much, giving it more speed and acceleration would even things up a bit

my biggest issue with the tank is the (i'm doing my best to be nice) trash MT mobility. I would pick a centurion 1 for mobility over this thing. It feels sluggish, particularly consider that the armour isn't that good and the gun is kinda meh.

It needs to play to map.

Good on hills and can use front plate if you angle dynamically - when brawling reverse to open plate to 45 degrees and use terrain or obstacles to protect sides.

It is not fast, true, but fast enough.

Might just be me but I think the tank is fine. Sure the damage nerf it got recently doesnt help but it just means you have to work it a little harder now.

Apart from the obvious prem medium tanks such as Matilda, Anko, etc, I dont think there is much better. I certainly feel its better than any other tech tree tier 5 MT (though there is now only five of them - scandalous in my opinion).

As Neb said, use it to its strengths on any given map. Its a good all-rounder in my opinion, has workable armor, decent gun handling, depression etc. Probably best in hilly terrain due to its gun depression and turret armor which makes it more than able to go hulldown but its frontal armor is also good enough to bounce a few when angled during brawling.

I love M4 and have and hate T14. M4 is the perfect jack of all trades tank. Would love to get the premium version and the Fury.

T14 is also brilliant. Just a bit innacurate if you do not aim fully.

My enriched M4 makes me 72k credits if I do around 1200 damage.
