Wow, just came across the below video for PC WOT.

They actually mention considerations like more lower tier tanks than higher tier tanks etc.

So what we have been discussing here must be glaring anomalies.

Hope that something similar is in the works for Blitz.

Very interesting stuff and does show that it is not easy to get the MM right.

When you consider player numbers, tiers, tank types, platoons, there are quite a lot of parameters that an MM has to consider. What I do not agree with is them saying that their priority is speed and how long it takes to get players into battle - I would rather wait a little longer if it meant the MM was fairer.

I notice they mentioned nothing about skill or experience being a parameter - which in the case of Blitz I simply do not believe. It is amazing how onesided most battles are in this respect and it still feels like one team is already pre-selected to win.

yet in Blitz there are countless times when I am the only low tier tank in the team.... Juliusheide did the maths above regarding the probability of 1 single low tier tank if the outcome was random and its clear that the actual outcomes are far more frequent than randomness suggests.

if you have 7 tanks, 50% for each tank to be high tier or low tier, but you end up with 6 tanks high tier, and 1 tank low tier, is like flipping 7 coins with 6 heads and 1 tail.

so it seems that MM is not based on totally random allocation of tanks....

What i've always wondered is that Tier X matches are a black hole for upper tier. That means, the math can never be equal, because tier 10 is forever the over-tier. So when you go down the line, somebody's gotta be the sacrificial lamb, so that Tier 10 can play every game as over-tier. As such, there isn't going to be a '50%' golden ratio for probability's sake, and also there cannot be a fair amount of every tier online. As obvious, higher tiers tend to also have much less players in the queue during a working day.

Tier 1 is forever under-tier so doesn't it balance out.... unless one assumes there are probably more tier 10 games than tier 1 games? (not certain, if there are large number of new players, there could be more tier 1 than tier 10 games)

MM is what it is. Nothing to do but deal with the s*** hand you get dealt.

Yes.

MM is not fair.

It is designed to encourage glue sniffing by letting you win a few, so you think you are improving, then give you ten serves of green potatoes together with a serve of AFKs and “where did that shell go” as desert.

I did consider that before. But, Tier 1 enjoys preferential matchmaking. Tier 10 does not.  So you can't really 'balance out' in general.

If tier 1 enjoys preferential matchmaking, that implies that tier 2 will always be under tier then?

On pc it’s +2-2 MM and they use 3-5-7. What we need is 8v8 and 3-5 MM

Yup! But since T2/3 games are much less than T5/6/7/8, which are so much closer to T10, the brunt of the under-tier matchmaking would logically go there wouldn't it?

Too bad we can't confirm this and can only make conjectures.

That being said, it's only my guess as to why so many of my T5-8 matches are under-tier games.

perhaps WG should ban 0 and 1 star players from playing in tier 10 (Bushka's video on the M60 troll comes to mind). this will reduce the number of t10 tanks looking for games and may give a chance for T9 to get more T8/9 games?

Ban zero and one star from playing above tier V.

I played 1 tier X battle yesterday did approx 1500 damage but did not feel that was good enough so went back to V.
