Battling a KV1 in Matilda

Can someone explain this please. I was battling a KV1 who had only 69 hit points remaining in Matilda in close quarters. I fired at him 8 times, with ALL shots into the non-red areas, mostly the sides. I got "critical hit" once, but "bounced off" and "didn't even scratch them" a LOT, even tho I was shooting the non-red areas! his HP only went down to 23 from 69 before he killed me. How can this be? I am supposed to be able to penetrate the non-red zones. Matilda's average penetration is 89 with AP and 145 with APCR so I should have killed him with one shot, or two at most. (I don't recall if I switched to APCR so definitely should have killed him with one shot if I did). Does MM make it that a tank will win a battle, regardless of what the opposing tank does? I think I saw someone say this once

That's just really bad RNG. Also remember that sometimes an area will appear green, but is actually not completely green, and has a chance to bounce your shell.

I never see green. ?? I only see red or the tank surfaces

Sorry. By 'green', I mean the opposite of red, which is the tank skin. :D But you will notice that sometimes, the surface is very lightly tinged with red; this has a chance of bouncing your shot.

If you roll low for penetration,  minimum would be only 75.65mm, so the slightest angle would have the shot bounce.

Also,  if the target is angled enough to ricochet the shot,  but the effective  armour thickness is lower than the shooter's average pen, it will show as penetrable in the hitskin even though your shots will actually ricochet.  I don't think that could have been what you were seeing though as KV-1 armour is thick enough that if angled it should appear red before it gets anywhere near the auto bounce angle.

I was shooting at 90 degrees to his armour. he was coming straight toward me, and my strategy was to turn and go alongside him. if he fired as I was turning, my armour was angled, and as I got alongside him i fired directly into his side, then I turned and went behind him and fired into his rear, while still turning to go on the other side of him and fire directly into his other side. but by then he was taking evasive action, and it became a jockeying for position.

this sort of unusual case, best to upload replay so that we can understand... u said u bounced 8 shots.. after bouncing 2 i would have switched to apcr already lol

no I didn't bounce 8 shots because his damage went down by 46 HP so I damaged him.
