Flank heavies. A lot. Or skirmish mainly against meds or lights.
Learn weakspots on strong tanks or memorize which one you should avoid head on (E75, T28/ T95, etc)
Also helps if you can buy premium ammo with credits and use them judiciously.
Keep an eye on your ammo rack condition as well when brawling. T-44 ammo rack used to be a bit on the weak side, don't know if still true currently.
Otherwise minimize exposure as much as possible (not too bad in hulldown, gun depression is -7 and turret front is rather small target to hit when hulldown) and don't bother with the 122mm. Get the LB-1 ASAP, your life in T-44 literally depends on it. Pen isn't any better or worse, but the ROF, gun handling and accuracy is much better than the D10T gun.

Oh and watch out for T-54 and Cent 7/1. Their hull front is resistant against 100mm AP from either D10T or LB-1, but can be penned with APCR head on.
Anyone else on the medium or light tank category the AP usually will suffice.

Right. When back then HEAT rounds can pen 330mm and turret on the T-62A is solid red to most guns it`s pretty OP. Granted T-62A didn`t have the gun depression to use that turret....
