i like the idea of additional rewards for playing different tanks, and also platooning.

Like all events (lately), they are of course designed to 1. make players play more (in this case playing your whole arsenal) 2. to motivate a certain group of players to behave as required. 3. to deceive players on a certain way, as in getting something for "free", when in fact they support WG in an indirect way.

Like other events, they push all (including) new players to play higher tiers, and in this particular case spending a lot of silver for new (+ tier V tanks), in order to deplete reserves for upgrading modules. In other words, creating scarcity ONCE MORE in an artificial way... in order to sell. With this move, more and more inexperienced and "incompetent" players will push tiers and may spoil the game completely.

Apparently, there biggest concern is new players quitting the game soon after having played for a relatively short time. Now, how would you feel if you had started the game like a week, 2 weeks, perhaps just a few days ago, when such event starts?! Actually having no or just one, perhaps a frequent player being in for a little longer, just a few tanks that qualify!!!?

So, this type of event is indeed counterproductive and contradictory to what they claim is their concern. Most of what they say versus what they do doesn't make a lot of sense, except one.

for me the event was just not engaging enough, since the rewards just didn't justify taking each tank T5-T10 out hoping for a win (unpredictable).

first tier reward 50K credits? second tier rewards 100k credits? a lot of players might get more for doing Nothing other than opening daily free crates

The progression sequence itself seemed very jarring, 330 stars for 100 cooldown boosters? are those that much in demand? the big crates didn't seem promising either.

maybe they're just pushing too many events out the scheudule, and not making all of them equally interesting?

The stars have five points. So not a pointless event.
