Hi Tournament players!

I am the Clan Leader for Tournament Clan FEAST. Nice to meet everyone in this thread. If you are a tournament player, you might notice that recently that WG are playing around with the tournament times. So to help them a bit, I am making this thread to help collect feedback (at my own will, not asked by WG staff), so that tournaments game mode can be improved in the future. I will talk about more tournament suggestions in another topic, so this topic will mainly focused on Timings.

Insight of Asia's Timezones

As you may or may not know, WoTB Asia Server covers quite a lot of timezones and they are covered quite evenly, from UTC+5 (Pakistan clans like 47)  to UTC+12 (New Zealand players like in SKUX). When Wargaming are considering Tournament times, they consider the timing that can allow the most of these players from all over Asia to play, not just for certain players. in other words, it will never be able to cover some of the player's needs.

How does this poll help? Sometimes you are able to attend the tournaments at that time, but there could be a better or more comfortable time for you, and this is where you can suggest them so Wargaming can also take those into consideration.

Tournament Participation in Asia Server

Recently you might see that Asia Server didn't get to participate in some of the large tournament events (Spring Seasons Professional tournament that has cash prizes, and Amazon Mobile Masters Tournaments didn't include Asia Server to participate).

The reason behind all of these: Asia has by far the lowest tournament activity out of all 4 servers, and it's not cost effective to include Asia in these tournaments. They have to pay for the prizes and traveling fees for the teams (when they are participating for Offline Finals) but they are not getting much extra popularity out of Mobile Esports tournaments.

You might just ask, why don't just Wargaming allow Professional Tournaments to be played on Keyboard and Mouse? Glad you asked.

Short answer: No, because Keyboard and Mouse is not allowed.

Long Answer: No, because what Wargaming is trying to achieve is "Mobile E-Sports". and by Wargaming's definition Mobile Esports only allows Touch mobile decides to be participating in the Esports, hence the "Mobile E-Sports" name. they want to enforce "Mobile Esports" to anything that involves large tournaments (my guess will be tournaments that last more than 1 day, and the winners that have chance to participate in offline tournaments)

This thread's feedback and ideas will definitely help into contributing a better tournament environment for Asia Server, and hopefully more and more teams are able to participate in tournaments in the given time.

Also feel free to discuss anything about tournaments below. I am sure that any voice that are raised here will be considered by the WG Tournament Team.

Hi Maddox.

Thx doing this .

We are really fond of the quick tournaments model, unfortunately WG keeps on changing the days before it was Tuesday Thursday and weekends.  Now it is Monday Wednesday Friday and some in weekends.

We like to do tournaments,  but many of us are also casuals with jobs and studies in real life.  All I would like is that WG makes a define time and system... and then just keep it like that.... not always changing it at their own will.

I believe the quick tournaments model is the most popular and appreciated,  however the rewards are a bit on the low side.

Anyway,  i really hope this will improve something and keep it positive.  Let's hope for the best.

Thank you

Hi Maddox

Thanks for this.

Our clan has found the recent changes incredibly disruptive. We would regularly play Tuesday and Wednesday tournaments. This month we’ve played only 2 compared with 12 in April.

As a largely Australia/NZ clan we are also vulnerable to changes in start times. I’m based in NZ and any start time after 11pm is unsustainable.

Part of the problem with the Asia server is the huge range of time zones included. Perhaps a solution would be to stagger start times on different evenings. Improving the rewards (how about increasing the Spare Parts rewards x10) would help increase participation would be a start.

Time zones for tournaments can never be perfect, that's just how tournaments work. When one country is satisfied with timing, the chances are, your opponents already downed 20 cups of coffee to play against you. An example of this is Australia/NZ - Rest of Asia (1-2 Hr behind) normally tournaments are 10-11 PM for Australia/NZ but it is perfect for the rest of Asia. Especially when tournaments generally last for 2 hr with mid breaks it would take Australians up to 1 AM to finish a tournament.

Agreed, that could be the reason WG needs to regularly change the timings. At least they keep some of the players happy some of the time...

If you think Asia time zones aren't ideal consider RU server - 11 time zones from west to east. Players in far eastern Russia are better off using Asia server. The RU player density map must also be heavily weighted towards the western edge.
