Ok. Maybe I am missing something.

1 standard spare part booster = 30-140 extra spare parts

combine 3, you get rare spare parts booster = 75-350 extra parts.

3 x 30 is 90

3 x 140 is 420

so why combine? For Fred’s sake!!!! You should get at least 90-420. I reckon 100-500 would be better.

is my maths wrong??? Is there another reason to combine them?

Yep, I was discussing this in clan chat on Wednesday night. It does seem the “lesser” boosters are more desirable.

The only reasons that I can see for combining them are:

  • If, like some of the events, they give you close to the minimum most of the time. Say, yielding 40-50 90% of the time, whereas the rare ones seldom yield less than 160. Time will tell. Would be nice if they provided a post-battle breakdown of the Spare Parts earned. It’s too much effort doing your own post-game analysis.
  • If you have limited time to play and/or are drowning in them, having so many that you can combine them and still not run out of them for a long time.

A lot of players just logging in and maybe completing some missions every day, waiting for enough spare parts. The boosters require playing. I think they made combining them less profitable for the same reason they introduced them. They want us to play more.

Nice thinking. That makes sense.

Of course, that makes you wonder why they implemented the combining feature in the first place. :)

Obviously, there is this "benefit" if for some reason (secondary account), you play few games and want to combine them. The other reason could be making GRINDING less painful, when getting more out of each game. But you still need to be aware that the exchange rate is really bad. Seriously, they could have made the conversion rate less sharky.

Offering the “chance to earn” spare parts removes the certainty of being gifted spare parts in daily crates. At most you get 5 boosters, so if you play (and likely lose credits while doing it), you get between 150 and 700 sparts for the whole day. In other words it’s a new way to make it harder overall to get spare parts. What can you say about marketers’ gall to call that a chance to earn...liars liars liars liars liars....

I could go on and on and on, but it is clear to me that the people running the show now are not interested in anything but money.

Funny thing is that I had premium for a long time and bought many tanks.

Now, why bother? I have credits coming out my rear. More than I can spend.

I don’t need experience since I’m not grinding to high tiers.

All I want is rare parts to get my tanks fully performing. If I could buy them with credits (not cash...eff that) I would spend big and run premium again, since that is what I was prepared to do previously.

One positive is that War Gaming realised that people don’t like premiums that need rare parts and are now providing them with unlocked slots - we told them this 6 months ago. Hah!

Only a few select premiums though. This latest Chinese bundle has no slots unlocked. It’s hit and miss and they don’t always announce it. The last time the premium M4 was in the store it had 6 slots unlocked but it was not stated anywhere. It was just a nice surprise if you bought it.

...and it's that level of inconsistency that argues strongly that utter incompetence is running the show in vodka-addled Minsk/Cyprus.

I'd noted the same simple math trick re the boosters. It's either ncompetence or sly cunning, and neither is anything they should be proud of.

I hate being negative here in the forums, but WG make it hard to love them.

This may be a mistake. I received 40 Rare Spare Part Boosters in a weekly crate and they do indeed give 100-500 Spare Parts. So perhaps the amount written in the storage tab is just a typo?

No scrap that - I've just checked and the weekly crate gives 'Special' Spare Part boosters not 'Rare' boosters.
